Meet David Venne

David was born and raised in Central Ohio by his mother from Elizabethtown, Kentucky and his father from Lima, Ohio.  This state has been his home for over 46 years.

David graduated from Olentangy High School (way back when there was only one!) before attending The Ohio State University where he earned his degree in criminology and sociology.  He later went on to earn his law degree from Ohio State University Moritz College of Law.

He currently lives in Dublin with Kristy, his wife of 25 years, their two teenage children who attend Dublin City Schools, and two lovable and awkward great danes.

His background in societal studies, the law, and real life experience navigating public systems and programs gives him a strong understanding of how government can be better for all of us.

A Problem Solver by Nature

Whether it’s at home or in the community, he wants to be part of the solution. He’s developed skills in many practical areas from plumbing and electrical to flooring and carpentry.  Fixing up every place his family called home.

He volunteers time to improve his community and towards supporting foster youth and at-risk young adults.  From helping with events and local advocacy to being a mentor to young men in difficult circumstances, he believes it is important to give back and to try to make things better for the people around us.

If there is something that needs to be fixed, he figures it out how to get it done.  That same mindset is what he brings to this campaign: practical, hands-on, and focused on solutions with hard hands and a soft heart.

David is an avid reader who makes a point to engage with ideas that push his thinking. He believes understanding and being willing to engage with different perspectives is essential if we’re going to move forward together.

He enjoys being active and going on hikes, kayaking the Scioto River, and pushing himself physically. He’s a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and teaches weekly classes, something that reflects his discipline, consistency, and commitment to helping others grow.

At home, you’ll likely find him working on a project, spending time with family, or walking with his wife and dogs.

David isn’t your typical politician. He’s someone who understands the everyday challenges people in this district are facing because he’s living them too.

He’s running to bring an independent voice to Washington.  A voice grounded in real life.  A voice calling for solutions.  A voice representing the people.

Outside Interests

Why Independent?

David chose to run as an independent because it’s the only way he knows how to do this honestly.

We’re told we have to pick a side. That we have to agree with everything one group does and reject everything from the other. That’s not how real life works. It’s not how most of us think and it’s not how we solve problems in our own families or communities.  We come together to get things done.

The law of Ohio doesn't make it easy to run as an independent.

If he wanted to run as a Republican or Democratic candidate, he would need to collect 50 signatures.  As minor party candidate like Libertarian or Green, he would need 25.

But as an independent for the 15th?  That number is 2,484.

This isn't the easy way, but it is the right way.

Our system is led by two parties and aligning yourself with one can come with expectations: who you support, how you vote, what you say, and sometimes what you’re even allowed to question.

This works for the parties, but it doesn’t always work for the people.

I’m running as an independent so I can stay focused on what actually matters: doing what’s right for people by trying to work with every member of Congress, regardless of party.

That means listening first.  It means being willing to change my mind.

And it means trying to build bridges with anyone who is serious about solving problems.

Let's do this together
